Dartford Crossing tunnel closures

3 July 2024
Work to re-waterproof and resurface the bridge carrying the M25 anti-clockwise carriageway between Junction 31 (Lakeside) and Junction 30 (A13) is scheduled to take place throughout summer 2024.
The first stage of this work is set to begin this weekend. One of the northbound Dartford Crossing tunnels and several lanes between the Dartford Crossing tunnel exits and M25 Junction 30 (northbound/anti-clockwise) will be closed from 8pm, Saturday 16 July to 10am, Sunday 7 July, for essential maintenance and repairs.

Service update - food waste collections

Over the next few weeks, more homes across Thurrock will receive food caddies and outdoor food bins as weekly food waste collections continue to roll out across the borough, following recent pilots.
From 1 July 2024, residents across the borough will begin receiving their new indoor food caddy for the kitchen and a lockable outdoor food waste bin. It will take nearly 6 weeks to deliver bins and caddies to every house in the borough. Residents should put their first food waste out on their normal bin day, the week after they receive their bin.

Thurrock flies flag for Armed Forces Day 2024

Military groups and veterans joined Cllr Kairen Raper, the Mayor of Thurrock to raise the Armed Forces Day flag outside the Civic Offices in New Road, Grays on Monday 24 June.
Representatives from the Royal Airforce Association, Royal British Legion, Far East Veterans Association and the Ambulance and Police services were all in attendance as Cllr Raper raised the flag.
The service began with a parade to the flagpoles led by local piper, Jo Goddard who played a rendition of 'Wings', a traditional marching song.

Have you spotted the Start Thurrock D-Day bus?

You might have seen the special D-Day Start Thurrock bus, wrapped with the winning entries from the recent Thurrock Museum D-Day art competition around Thurrock.
The bus is on the 44, 73 and 83 routes, driving from Lakeside to Grays, Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary and is part of our D-Day 80th anniversary commemorations.

Cllr Kairen Raper, Mayor of Thurrock, attended the heartwarming ceremony on Friday 31 May at Orsett Hall, presenting awards to all nominated children in care.

Loneliness is a normal human emotion but it can often feel overwhelming and out of our control. When loneliness is severe or lasts a long time, it can have a negative impact on our health and well-being.
Loneliness is far more common than many people may think. In fact, 45% of adults in England feel occasionally, sometimes, or often lonely.
Fortunately, there are several places to visit that may help residents in Thurrock to overcome loneliness and make new connections.

Get cycling for Bike Week

Cycling offers a range of benefits, from helping the environment by reducing the number of cars on the road to improving the health and wellbeing of the riders.
While cycling can make people happier, healthier, greener, and more connected to their community, some residents may face barriers to getting started. Thurrock Council offers several initiatives to support residents in gaining the confidence they need to start riding.

Thurrock and Basildon candidates for the 2024 general election

General election nominations have officially closed and the names of all candidates standing to serve the Thurrock constituency and the South Basildon and East Thurrock constituency on Thursday 4 July have been released.

Polling cards will start being delivered to eligible electors from Monday 10 June. Poll cards will contain each registered voter's voting details, polling station, voter ID requirements and how to apply for a postal or proxy vote.
