Independent support for children in care

Advocates

Advocates help you have your say – whatever your opinion, they can help you make it! Advocates believe that what you have to say is important and are always happy to listen to you.

Advocacy helps you raise your concerns and have them answered at an early stage. It also helps to improve your services by making sure your views reach the people who provide them.

An advocate will only do things that you are happy with. They can:

  • make phone calls
  • write letters
  • go to meetings with you

Whenever they meet with you, they will always check with you what support you need and the outcomes you want. They can't guarantee the result, but they will do their best for you.

An advocate can support you at your review, and in speaking to social services or other agencies. They can also help you to make a complaint or get legal advice. Advocates will make your voice heard.

You can find out more about advocates by calling or emailing the Open Door: Young People Looked After (YPLA) team.
